Work Experience

Work Experience is a program established between Missouri Career Centers and local employers designed to benefit disadvantaged youth in the area, ages 14-21. Eligibility requirements apply.

Some youth have a difficult time landing a job, be it due to lack of family finances or other barriers to employment. Employers are not inclined to hire someone with no previous work experience, but if one cannot get hired in the first place, this becomes a paradox.

Under the Work Experience program, the Missouri Career Centers have formed agreements with employers to hire these youth on the condition that the career center pays for wages and any workman’s compensation. In return, the employer provides supervision, training, time tracking, and periodic status reports. The job lasts for 160 hours, and the scheduling is quite flexible.
